Great job to everyone who was at the Chemic Classic Invitational this past Saturday. Congrats to Kelly, Chris, and Mike who all broke to semi-finals.

Remember, NO PRACTICE THIS WEDNESDAY due to testing. Also, I would like you to start coming in two days a week for practice since Districts are coming up on March 28th. It can’t hurt to browse around the MIFA page (the link is on the right side of this page). Look for the tab on the left side of the MIFA page that says IE Districts.

Hugs to all.

Districts update

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:21 pm by glforensics

The date is still the Mar 28th. The first round is at 3:3o pm. Do not ask me if you will be missing any or all of 6th hour. I have no clue. We will be taking a bus to and from the site. Also if any of your parents would like to come out that would be wonderful!

Contact me if you have any comments or concerns,

Laura

PS GREAT JOB to everyone this past Sat. Some of you were competing for the first time and I think that you did wonderful.

Remember our next (and last tournament) is this coming Sat at Midland High School. Bus leaves early 5:30.

Down the pipeline

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:19 pm by glforensics

Howdy again,

The sign-up for the next (and FINAL) tournament of the season is posted outside Mrs AY’s room. I would like you all to sign up by Monday of next week. That tournament is at Midland and is always a good one.

Don’t forget that we have a tournament this Sat at Grand Rapids Christian High School. The bus will leave at 6:15 no exceptions. If you are planning to just come along to observe it is always best to give me a heads up on that as well.

I do know what group we are in for District competition, but I do not know what date yet. This is usually on like a Weds after school. But make sure you are keeping that week that I gave you at the beginning open. Districts will be held at the Scotts-Climax High School, just outside the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo area. This is an opportunity for us to really shine!

I’m sure that I have mentioned this in passing but I would really like to pursue selling cotton candy at the St Pats parade in downtown Grand Ledge. I will try to get more information out to you soon.

Also, and importanly, we will Not be going to the Mackinac Island tournament this year. There are many reasons why this is so. One is the small amount of people who are interested, another is the fact that we just haven’t done the kind of fundraising that we need to, also Mr.Delp (a long time organizer and chaperone of the trip would be unable to go this year, as well as the fact that all of you are required to get a new piece or change events entirely, while some of you are just finally polishing your first pieces. But knowing whats coming down the pipe at us, I see no reason why we can’t go next year. It is a fun, exciting and worthwhile trip.

Next week is my Spring Break at MSU. I think Mrs Kendall and I will be alternating days the WHOLE week so that you have the opportunity to come in on Tues and Thurs (hint: you can practice many times). This is an opportunity you shoud not miss since it will fine tune those of you who are going to the Chemic Invitational on the 10th and really get you in gear for Districts which will be following right on its heels. I will have a form for who will be in what days up soon.

Also, reminder, please wear your Forensics shirts this Friday as we do have a meet on Saturday and we are just as cool as (ok, I’ll admit cooler than) the sports teams ;-)

As always, contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or you need to talk.

 Hugs

  Laura

Heads Up

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:05 pm by glforensics

Alright everyone,
We are heading into the final stretch of sort. Heres the lowdown for this week:
-CONGRATS! to everyone who competed at the Frankenmuth Tournament on Saturday. Many of you were taking 2nd and 3rd place in your prelim rounds! Angel and Taylor both broke to Semis and Taylor broke to finals and took 6th overall.
– Tournament this Sat at Grand Rapids Christian High Scool. YOU NEED TO LET ME KNOW THAT YOU ARE COMPETING BY TUESDAY! I know that the deadline is a little close, but we lost alot time with that whole week where we had no practice.
– Speaking of which. It was very apparent to me that many of you did not go over your pieces during that week. You are EXPECTED to be practicing at home, especially when you are not at school.
– After GR Christian is Midland on the 10th. This is always a fun tournament and the last chance to compete this season.
– Many of you have met her already, but welcome to Mrs. Kendall. She is a great (and knowledgable!) addition to our team and will be assitant coaching throughout the rest of the season.
- We have the opportunity to sell cotton candy at the Grand Ledge St. Pat’s parade. I really think that we could make a killing at this event since not only will there be alot of people, but TONS of little kids. I was also thinking of selling cotton candy in the week before St Pats during lunch again. What I need to know is whether people are up for this?
-TEAM MEETING THIS WEDS after school. It will be even shorter than the last one, but I want to talk about Mackinaw and the whats coming down the road at us.
– If you have photos from any of the tournaments that you would like to see up on the website, send them to me and I will try to get them up as soon as I can.
Alright thats it for now. Email me if you need anything,

This week and next

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:27 pm by glforensics

Ok boys and girls,

Some major stuff here that I really need you to pay attention to. No one came into practice on Monday and since there was no school today (Weds) due to snow and no school Friday or Monday, that means All of you have gone or are going to go a long time without practice, this is not good.

First, those of you who signed up to sell cotton candy on Weds will need to sell it on Thurs if at all possible. We need this money. I will be getting in touch with the various booster associations in hopes that we can somehow get into selling at the games or selling it to the boosters to sell at the games.

Second, the next tournament is coming up MUCH faster than you think. I really would like to have all of you signed up by tomorrow so that I can get the paperwork in ASAP. Some of you really need to get in gear about what you are doing for the season. After next Saturday, you only have two tournaments left in which to compete and you must compete in both to be eligible to go to Districts.

Third, Dan I have the copies of Stone Soup for you and I need to get these to you asap. Were you planning on competing on the 24th?

Fourth, if I hold an outside practice this Monday somewhere, would any one be able to make it? It would probably be at my parents house in GL, unless you guys can think of someplace else (even someone else’s house). I don’t want to make you drive all the way out to EL to meet with me. Email me if you think you be able to meet for a couple hours on Mon afternoon.

Fifth, The Fridays before tournaments I would like everyone to wear their shirts/sweatshirts to school; just like the sports teams.

Sixth, Although I have links to script pages on our page here, you should check out the other team pages for helpful links too. Also, if you know of another team page, let me know. These are just the ones I could find.

Seventh, The updated phone tree can be found on this page too. Please make the appropriate changes to your hard copy.

Eighth, The ‘instructions’ for how to get a user name for this page are in the post below this. Email me if you have any problems. PLEASE, tell/show your parents about this page. Especially since it has an ‘about’ page that may explain a little bit more what we do.

Alright this is a start. Contact me this weekend if you have any questions, comments, concerns, ideas, etc.

Welcome!

Finally a new page that might suite our needs a little bit better than Xanga! (although I will miss the smileys). So, what should you do? First just kinda look around. Get a feel for where things are. The site is still under construction so there are things missing (like the wiki) but it is coming I promise, I figure to have half of this is better than nothing at all. The school servers do NOT block this so you should be able check this at school if you need to. You will not be able to post actual blog entries (like this one) but you will be able to comment upon them if you create an account with edublogs. This is really simple:

Go to edublogs.org and click on the area that says K-12 student. You will then need to create a username for yourself (I would prefer something we could identify you easily by). It also asks you for an email address. You are welcome to put in my MSU one (chamb202@msu.edu) or use your own. The site does not distribute information. And then check “just a user name please”. If you use my email address the “activation notification” will go back to my email and I will have to activate it; so give me about a day to do this, as I am not at my computer 24/7.  Although it says students, I see no reason why parents can not do this as well. The system will not be able to distinguish the difference.

If you have links, pictures, etc that you would like to see added please send them to me and I will get them up as soon as I can.

With the beginning of this site, I will NOT be using the Xanga anymore. Please mark this page and pass it on to your parents, guardians, friends, enemies, family pets, whatever.
