Regionals!

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:00 pm by glforensics

Bravo (!) to all who went to Regionals this past Saturday. I know that it was a long day that started with a bridge out and ended with an extra hours wait for results, but each of you was positivly suburb. I can’t tell you how easy it is for me to brag about “my” team to my friends because you guys do such a great job! Your presentations and actions reflect those of true competitors. Special recognition goes to the following:
Angel Villarreal: Alternate to States (6th overall) in Dramatic Interpretation
Chris Slattery and Alisha Green: Alternate (6th overall) in Duo
Chris Chamberlain: 5th (progressing to State Competition) in Impromptu speaking
Daniel Thompson: Alternate (6th overall) in Children’s Storytelling

States: State Competition will be held Friday May 4th (during school) and Saturday May 5th at Central Michigan University. Contestants participate all day both days, all though there is down time due to staggard/module scheduling. Anyone on our team is welcome to come and support or watch State Competition, although non-competitors will not be dismissed from school. I also highly suggest carpooling.

Practice schedule: Those of you who are going OR ARE ALTERNATES to States, I would like you to keep practicing. Registration is due the 30th, and even then, things happen (unfortunatly). You never know what may cause you to progress to States and the worst thing that could happen is for you to be unprepared to go. I am also aware that Drama Club has there big production this weekend so don’t overdue yourselfs, but keep everything fresh in your heads.
Speaking of Drama Club…..
It looks like we are going to be paring up with Drama Club for Dessert Theatre on MAY 30th (an evening event). If you would like to preform you are more than welcome to, regardless of how many times you competed in the season or how you fared. ALSO you do not have to be a drama person to participate! Broadcasters etc, I would love to show off your talents so that people get a taste of how hard it is to prep and speak with a time limit. This event is FOR ALL. That also means that you need to stay “un-rusty” with your piece/skills. It is also at that time that I will award letters and pins. I will notify you if you are eligible for either. If you would like to perform, just let me know. That being said: more details coming soon.
The next few weeks for me are going to be a little crazy for with finals, so I may not be at practice. BUT Mrs Kendall and Jeni will be so there are NO EXCUSES for coming. I expect you to take their advice seriously as both most definitly know what they are talking about.
Again, all of you made me very proud this saturday (we definitly had the cleanest table in the cafetaria :-) )
Email me with any questions,

Long Time, No See

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:15 am by glforensics

Hello my wonderfuls!

I realize that I have been a bit slack in posting up here, but while you were all off sleeping in and what not on break, I still had a crazy week of class with papers, exams, and the normal bruhaha. So, down to business then!

District:

GREAT JOB To everyone. I am so proud of you guys; not only in your rankings, but in the overall manner in which you conducted yourselves. You were polite, patient, and graceful about winning. Pats on the back all around. The names and scores are listed below.

Angel Villarreal, 1st place in Dramatic Int.

Taylor DeLaOssa, 1st in Dramatic Int 9/10

Alisha Green and Chris Slattery, 1st in Duo

Kevin Fox, 4th and Alternate to Regionals in Storytelling

Sarah Asman, 1st in Prose

Chris Chamberlain, 2nd in Impromptu

Daniel Thompson, 1st in Children’s Storytelling

Mike Tien, 1st in TV Broadcasting

Kelly Dunnigan, 2nd in TV Broadcasting

Congrats again to all!

So, now to the important information: REGIONALS.

Date: Sat April 21st

Bus Leaves: 5:30AM

The tournament direction hopes to have awards around 5:30pm, so then I would anticipate being home around 8pm, but you guys know how these things flex back and forth…..

This is like a normal tournament day. You will need to bring money for food, things to keep you entertained, etc.

What is different is that the Top 5  from each event go on to States, not top three.

Friends and Parents are welcome to come. Friends that are students I need to have a signed bus slip and a written note for. Parents need nothing, but it would be nice if you told me they were coming.

Practice is on Mon/Wed/Fri as usual. I can not tell you how crucial this is. You have all just gone a week and a half with out practice. You are rusty. Believe me. On top of that, Regionals is tough. We have alot of talented schools who we will be competing with in our Region. You need to be practicing twice a week, and running through your piece every night at home. Broadcasters listen to NPR on 90.5fm. As high intelligence beings, you are able to mimic what you hear, and this is what you’re going for. Plus, staying abreast of current events (esp if you’ve tuned stuff out the past week or so) will help you with your editorials (the clincher in a round).

On a less serious note, I’m thinking somewhere in the second week of May for our parent night. Let me know (seniors I know you’re swamped).

As always, let me know if you have any questions, concerns, comments (in forensics or otherwise). You know my email.

Hugs to all,

Laura C
